eter Kiernan works in watercolour, pastel, graphite, charcoal, ink, and sometimes in oil. He works out-of-doors in all seasons and every weather. He draws and paints people everywhere and all the time, but his main concern is with landscape.
"There is something going on in fields and woodland--especially in woodland--and I want to know what it is. I want to penetrate beyond mere appearance right into the feeling, to get down to the complete experience."
He paints landscapes in all his mediums with a variety of approach and style, pinning down fleeting moments of weather and light in some, and in others capturing the layered history and erosion of the land. He draws people going about their daily lives in streets, pubs, parks, trains, and beaches.
Whether painting people or landscape, Peter Kiernan's work captures the specific in the most economic and graceful terms.
